What is the risk for having surgery under general anesthesia and is it safe to have a epidural or spinal block instead of general? |

Not much different than people without Long QT syndrome as long as QT prolonging drugs are avoided. |

my 12 year old son was diagnosed last week with LQTS, we do not know which type yet. His ECG reading was 464 and is being treated with beta-blockers 240mg per day. Our family had planned a trip to disneyland florida in november, and although our cardiologist says its ok to take him i am still extremely worried. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. |

It is impossible to give a perfect answer. Balancing risk and life quality is difficult. Avoiding all normal activities could ruin your kids life, but physical and emotional stress have a small risk. In general treated Long QT patients has low risk, but not zero. The balance between reduction in life quality and risk is not only the doctors decision, but also the familys.
