I have 2 children diagnosed with long qt. My son at 9 had to quit football. My daughter at 12 quit soccer but still cheerleads. My son was told he can play football with friends in the yard but not competitively. Does anyone with long qt still play competitive sports? My son would like to still play football but is only 9 years old. When I read some of the information it seems the doctors just don’t know what they can and can’t do. I am trying to make decision on information that seems to be conflicting. What are everyone’s thoughts on this? |

Hello, Here is the most complete article I ever found onthe subject. Each case is different, even within the same family, so decisions have to be made carefully. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/109/22/2807 Also, the type of LQT your children have (LQT1 or 2 or 3...) should be considered since the triggers are different. I have LQT2 and have been running for 30 years, competitively at times when I was younger and never had any problem. But again everyone is different. Hope this helps a little. PS: Are your children on medicine? |
