I do not know if I have long QT, but I have had some disturbing night time blackout spells. I will be asleep and dreaming, when suddenly everything goes black. It is just like the power has gone off, or someone has pulled the power plug. The first time it happened I thought I was dying, and suddenly woke up a little dizzy or confused. The last several times it has happened, I wake up as soon it happens, screaming and feeling like I have just had a shot of adrenaline. My doctor is passing it off an a night terror but I can remember the dream I was having and it has never been an upsetting dream. It is like I faint in my sleep.. I know it sounds strange, but it is very real to me. He says we could use an event monitor for a month or so to see if it happens again. I don't want to over react, but it upsets me evry time it happens. It happened about 1 year ago, and again 6 months ago, and in the last 6 weks it has happened 5 times. Would an event monitor be an effective way to check this out or should I look at getting an EKG or just let it go?

Scott:
Not glad, but glad to hear someone else had this too. I have been diagnosed with LQT for about 5 years now but only having near faints this past year for first time. In October and November I had two sleep events that I have never experienced before and doctor is puzzled--never heard of it before, makes me check my sanity! I woke up feeling like blood was draining out of body, like fainting and could not move or speak, totally frightening, don't know if I passed out or fell back asleep, but woke up second time and started all over again, then left as quick as it came. Whew, I got up and ran into next room where hubby was. Then it happened again in November, this time very brief and again in January, brief once again. Maybe someone else can shed light, I wore monitors last year and they did not pick up anything although never had any "big" events while wearing it. You feel like you're dying--but maybe nothing but vaso vagal although doc never heard of anyone fainting while lying down, almost laughed at me.
If you get any info, please share.

Normally I would say that these symptoms is not characsteric of Long QT, but one could never say. Have a resting ECG taken and evaluated by a qualified cardiologist.

Yes get some test done. My daughter and I passed out during our sleep. She died a little over two years ago and I remember her sleeping and waking up in a panic. I also did this and went into cardiac arrest 3 times in one week a little over a year ago. Long QT will hide that is why it is so hard to diagnose in some people but for us we had abnorml ekg's that no one told us about and they over looked them. Have some ekg's done and make sure that the QTC reading is not over 440 for male and 450 for females. Go to a Electrophysiologist they study the hearts electrocal system. Do you have any other symtoms such as heart palpatation and rapid heart beating? please email me if you have any questions.

I have just experienced my second episode of "blacking out" while asleep. I can feel a rush in my body and feel my blood pulsing then everything goes entirely black leaving me feeling as though I am paralized. The episodes come in waves one after another, then I awake. My husband has witnessed this but says I am just dreaming. These are frightening episodes, and I know that I am not dreaming. I saw a doctor over a year ago for what i thought was an irregular heartbeat some tests were done and was told everything was O.K. Has anyone else been told that nothing was wrong?
