I had a collapse due to arrythmias in my teens. There is a family history of DCM, where we present with mild dilation but die suddenly of arrythmias. Was recently in local hospital with palpitations and lightheadedness. Have now been told I have a QT interval of 500ms and am waiting to discuss this with my cardiologist at my next appointment. Could I have dcm AND lqt? And is this anything to worry about - I have an ICD for my dcm anyway..... |

It is important to emphasize that prolonged QT intervals and Long QT syndrome is not the same thing. Many cardiac diseases lead to a prolonged QT interval including DCM. It is most probable that your prolonged QT interval is part of your DCM. As you wrote you have the ulmitale treatment for both diseases - the ICD |

phew! thank you for that information! Having checked the information I was given again, it is my QTc which is 500,but I presume this is again part of the DCM? Does this put me at a higher risk of the ICD firing or is it just part and parcel of my DCM? thanks! |

I guess it is part of your DCM. I would say taht it is the severity of your DCM who tells about the risk of ICD firing |
